It was a good day for Indian Grand Slam debutants as Manas Dhamane and the pair of Jeevan Nedonchezian and N Sriram Balaji won the first round of the boys’ singles and men’s doubles respectively.

Dhamane, a 15-year-old prodigy, started his Junior Slam journey with a 6-3, 6-3 win over Australian wild card Jeremy Zhang. The Jeevan-Balaji duo, who were late substitutes in the doubles draw, defeated fifth seeds Ivan Dodig of Croatia and Austin Krajic of the United States 7-6(6), 2-6, 6-4 to reach their first Slam.
