6.1 magnitude earthquake hits eastern Turkey, EMSC reports – Times of India

A 6.1 magnitude struck by an earthquake eastern Turkey on Wednesday, according to the European Mediterranean Seismological Center (EMSC). The earthquake occurred at a depth of 9 km below the surface EMSC reported.
There were no immediate reports of damage or casualties.
“We have not received any reports of problems so far,” Malatya Mayor Sami Er told the state-run Anadolu Agency, adding that officials were still assessing possible damage in more remote areas.
The last main one an earthquake to strike Turkey it was last February, during the earthquake in Turkey and Syria. Officials and medics said 9,057 people died in Turkey and 2,992 in Syria in the 7.8-magnitude quake, bringing the total death toll to 12,049. Over 250 Indian NDRF and Army personnel were involved in rescue and relief operations in Turkey and Syria within the framework of “Operation Dost”.
