On Thursday, the country will witness several ‘firsts’ on the occasion of the 74th Republic Day. Citizens will get to see these ‘firsts’ during the Republic Day parade. Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi is in India to attend the parade as its chief guest.

The details are:

(1.) El-Sisi is the first Egyptian leader to be invited as a guest of honor for the event. He is also the first guest of honor since 2020, when then Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro attended the parade (there was no guest of honor in 2021 and 2022 due to Covid-19).

(2.) On January 26, the President of India hoisted the national flag and saluted the marching troops. Hence, this is the first Republic Day as President for Draupadi Murmu, the country’s highest office holder, and India’s second female head of state (Pratibha Patil was the first), who inaugurated it in July last year. He took office.

(3.) The Rajpath, since renamed the Kartavia Path last year, will be seen for the first time by tanks, guns and troops. Also, all official invitations are sent online, one more time.

(4.) Prior to 2023, British guns were used to fire a 21-gun salute to the President of India before the parade. However, now, under the government’s ‘Make in India’ scheme, indigenous 105 mm field guns will replace the vintage artillery of 25 powder guns.

(6.) For the first time women will participate in the camel contingent of the Border Security Force (BSF).

(7.) Batting Retreat, an event to be held on January 29 and to conclude the Republic Day celebrations, will have 3-D anamorphic projections for the first time.
