Australian corridor of fame claims Kiwi singer-songwriter

Six artists have been awarded the best honour in Australian music, together with late Indigenous musician Gurrumul.

The celebrated artist from the Gumatj clan of Elcho Island in Arnhem Land will probably be inducted into the Australian Recording Trade Affiliation Corridor of Fame alongside Jenny Morris, Kate Ceberano, Spiderbait, The Dwelling Finish and Vika and Linda.

The Australian music veterans will be part of the likes of AC/DC, Jet, Missy Higgins, Yothu Yindi and Kylie Minogue as inductees.

New Zealand-Australian singer-songwriter Morris rose to prominence within the Nineteen Eighties and Nineteen Nineties along with her work with bands QED and INXS earlier than embarking on a profitable solo profession.

Born blind in 1971 in East Arnhem Land, singer Geoffrey Gurrumul Yunupingu’s voice and music took him world wide, together with performances at New York’s Carnegie Corridor and on the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Live performance in London.

The beloved musician has left an enduring cultural legacy via his work and ranks as one of the adorned First Nations artists.

He died in 2017 at age 46 after a battle with kidney and liver illness.

Rock band The Dwelling Finish, vocal duo Vika and Linda, different rock band Spiderbait, and singer and songwriter Kate Ceberano will even be inducted into the Corridor of Fame at a particular fortieth anniversary occasion at Carriageworks, Sydney, on June 11.

“As we mark 40 years of the ARIA Awards, it feels particularly significant to honour these artists whose work has outlined moments in time and continues to resonate with audiences as we speak,” chief government Annabelle Herd stated.

“Every of those artists has formed how Australian music is heard and understood at house and world wide.”
