Happy Patel Khatarnak Jasoos Trailer: Vir Das Turns Failed Spy in Quirky Directorial Debut
Mumbai: Comedian and actor Vir Das steps into the director’s chair with his debut film Happy Patel Khatarnak Jasoos, whose trailer was unveiled on Friday, December 19, 2025. The film promises an over-the-top spy spoof packed with absurd humour, eccentric characters, and self-aware comedy.
Written by Vir Das and Amogh Randive, the film is co-directed by Vir Das and Kavi Shastri. Alongside Vir, the ensemble cast includes Mithila Palkar, Mona Singh, Sharib Hashmi, Srushti Tawade, Imran Khan, and a special appearance by Aamir Khan.
Vir Das as a Hapless Spy Named Happy Patel
The trailer introduces Vir Das as Happy Patel, an amateur spy who has failed to clear the entrance exam for the fictional intelligence agency MI7—not once, but seven times. Ironically, despite his repeated failures and complete ignorance of his Indian roots, Happy is assigned a covert mission in India.
Landing in Goa, Happy struggles to blend in with his exaggeratedly anglicised accent, instantly becoming the subject of jokes and awkward encounters. His cultural disconnect sets the tone for much of the film’s humour.
Romance, Rivalries and Absurd Situations
Mithila Palkar plays Happy’s love interest, whose sharp reactions — including slapping him in one scene — underline the film’s irreverent approach to romance. Mona Singh appears in a striking role as a feared kingpin whom Happy must confront, adding a layer of chaos to his already ill-fated mission.
The trailer also offers a brief glimpse of Aamir Khan in an eccentric, sketch-like avatar, while Imran Khan’s appearance adds to the nostalgia for fans of early 2010s Bollywood comedy.
A Reunion After Delhi Belly
Happy Patel Khatarnak Jasoos marks a notable reunion of Vir Das, Aamir Khan, and Imran Khan after their cult hit Delhi Belly (2011). The film is produced by Aamir Khan, Aparna Purohit, Vir Das, and Kavi Shastri.
The makers describe the film as a playful parody of spy thrillers, blending slapstick humour with satire and exaggerated action.
Vir Das’ Journey from Actor to Director
Apart from his global stand-up comedy career, Vir Das has appeared in films such as Namastey London (2007), Love Aaj Kal (2009), Badmaash Company (2010), and Mastizaade (2016). His most recent on-screen appearance was in the series Call Me Bae (2024).
With this film, Vir explores comedy from behind the camera, aiming to deliver a fun, genre-bending cinematic experience.
