Customs officers at Ahmedabad’s Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Worldwide Airport seized gold price over Rs 4.26 crore that had been hid inside a speaker field on an IndiGo flight arriving from Dubai on Friday.
Throughout a search of IndiGo Flight 6E-1478, Customs officers, assisted by plane engineers, found two pouches wrapped in black plastic tape hid inside a speaker field positioned within the plane’s entrance bathroom.
Upon examination, officers recovered 24 foreign-origin gold biscuits of 999 purity (24 carat), weighing a complete of two,799.3 grams. The seized gold is valued at roughly Rs 4.27 crore within the native market.
Based on Customs officers, the way of concealment indicated that the gold had been hidden by an unidentified particular person with the intention of smuggling it into India in violation of the Customs Act, 1962.
As no passenger or crew member got here ahead to say possession of the consignment, the gold was seized as unclaimed below the related provisions of the Customs Act. Additional investigation is underway.
The seizure comes weeks after Customs officers on the airport intercepted two passengers arriving from Dubai and seized greater than 1.13 lakh sticks of foreign-origin cigarettes.
The passengers, who arrived on an Emirates flight, have been intercepted on the arrival corridor after suspicious X-ray photos of their checked-in baggage have been flagged for inspection.
An in depth examination of the baggage led to the restoration of a big consignment of hid cigarettes, officers mentioned.
The seized items included 280 bins containing 56,000 sticks of the ‘Mond’ model and 286 bins containing 57,200 sticks of the ‘Gudang Garam’ model. The consignment was seized below the provisions of the Customs Act, 1962.
