Brighton and Hove Albion rallied from two goals down to stun Tottenham Hotspurs 3-2 at the Amex Stadium on Sunday in the Premier League.

Ange Postecoglou’s men took the lead through Brennan Johnson before doubling their advantage through James Maddison. However, Brighton turned the game around with strikes from Yakubu Minteh, Georginio Rutter and Danny Welbeck.

Tottenham started with Guglielmo Vicario in goal, with Destiny Udogi, Miki Van de Ven, Christian Romero and Pedro Porro in defence. Maddison, Rodrigo Bentancourt and Dejan Kuluszewski formed the midfield with Timo Werner, Dominic Solanke and Johnson up front.

Fabian Herzeler put Bart Verbruggen between the sticks behind his back four of Joel Veltman, Adam Webster, Louis Dunk and Ferdi Kadioglu. The midfield consisted of Carlos Num Kuoma Baleba, Jack Hinshelwood and Rutter, with Mintech and Kaoru Mitoma on either wing. Welbeck was the only player up front for the hosts.

The visitors took the lead after 25 minutes when Johnson headed in from Solanke’s assist. It was the sixth time the Welshman had found the net in his last six outings.

Maddison added Spurs’ second strike in the 37th minute when the Englishman’s shot slipped away from Verbruggen’s weak hold on the ball.

But Minteh reduced the deficit in the 48th minute of the match after a terrific clearance from Udogie to start the turnaround.

Rutter went past three Tottenham players to bring his side back level with the visitors, bringing the game back into the balance.

Brighton’s turnaround was complete when former Manchester United and Arsenal striker Welbeck headed the ball home to send the Amex into a state of delirium in the 66th minute of the match.

Tottenham’s third defeat in seven league games raised questions about head coach Postecoglou’s reluctance to change his attacking philosophy after the London-based side’s defensive frailties were exposed.
