In a major move, Bihar Education Department Additional Chief Secretary S Siddharth ordered departmental action against five District Education Officers (DEOs) for failing to ensure timely payment of salaries and honorariums. The affected districts include Banka, Jamui, Patna, Saharsa and Siwan.

A letter from the Additional Secretary, Ministry of Education, Sanjay Kumar, was addressed to the Additional Secretary, Director General’s Administration, recommending action against the DEO. The letter highlighted that consistent instructions have been issued requiring all district employees to receive their salaries and allowances in the first week of every month.

The issue was highlighted during a video conference on October 8, where it was noted that payments for September had not yet been made in several districts. The DEOs were instructed to rectify this by October 9. However, during a follow-up meeting on October 15, it was discovered that salary payments to employees in these areas remained outstanding.

The letter specifies which payments have been delayed, including honoraria for various staff such as the Block Program Management Unit (BPMU) at Banka, Aadhar operators at Jamui, Patna and Siwan, and multiple positions at Saharsa.

The correspondence clearly holds district education officials responsible for late payments despite repeated reminders. Consequently, a recommendation for departmental action against these officers has been made.
