One Direction bandmates have reacted to Liam Payne’s death, saying they are ‘absolutely devastated’


One Direction have issued a statement following the death of their former bandmate Liam Payne, saying they are “absolutely devastated”.

In a statement signed ‘Louis, Zayn, Niall and Harry’, the four stars said: ‘We are absolutely devastated by the news of Liam’s death.

“In time, and when everyone can do it, there will be more to say.” But for now, we will take some time to grieve and process the loss of our much loved brother.

Payne31, who rose to fame on The X Factor with boy banddied after falling from a third-floor hotel balcony in the Argentine capital, Buenos Aires.

The singer suffered “extremely serious injuries” after falling in the courtyard of the CasaSur hotel in the Palermo district on Wednesday.

On his Instagram page, Louis Tomlinson said he had “lost a brother”.

Calling the singer “an amazing songwriter with a great sense of melody,” he said they “became even closer after the band” and offered to be Payne’s son Bear’s uncle if he “ever needs me.”

He ended his post by writing: “Paino, my boy, one of my best friends, my brother, I love you my friend. Rest in peace X.”

Zayn Malik posted a simple “I love you bro” along with a photo of the two of them sleeping together, seemingly in a vehicle.

Reviews from the entertainment industry poured in for Payne since news of the tragedy broke.

One of his close friends showed Sky News the messages he sent her hours before he died.
