The Israeli army confirmed that Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar was killed in an operation in the southern Gaza Strip on October 16 “after a year-long manhunt.” Foreign Minister Israel Katz also said that Sinwar was “responsible for the massacre and atrocities on October 7, was eliminated.” Israel’s army and internal security agency Shin Bet said Sinwar was among three fighters killed by the 828th Brigade. “After the process of identifying the body has been completed, it can now be confirmed that [Sinwar] was eliminated,” they said in a joint statement. Israel’s Channel 12 reported that an identification test carried out on the body discovered yesterday by the IDF found a “complete match” to Sinwar.
