Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said on Thursday (17 October 2024) that the killing of Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar in the Gaza Strip was the “beginning of the end” of the year-long war in the Palestinian territory.
Mr Netanyahu, who vowed to crush Hamas at the start of the war, welcomed Sinwar’s killing, saying: “Although this is not the end of the war in Gaza, it is the beginning of the end.”
The Israeli army said that after a prolonged pursuit, troops eliminated on Wednesday (16 October 2024) Yahya Sinwar, the leader of the terrorist organization Hamas, in an operation in the southern Gaza Strip.
