An alleged attempt to stage a car accident to fraudulently claim insurance in New York was thwarted thanks to a simple video camera that captured the entire incident. The video posted on TikTok by Ashpia Natasha shows her driving on the Belt Parkway in Queens when a Honda Civic appears to deliberately cause a collision.
In the video description, the woman said she was driving in the middle lane when the Civic suddenly cut her off and slammed on the brakes, as if trying to force her to rear-end the sedan. However, the woman managed to apply the brakes in time to prevent a collision.
Seconds later, the Civic is seen suddenly reverse and crash into Natasha’s car. The woman can be seen freaking out at the sudden turn of events while talking to someone on the phone.
Soon four people are seen getting out of the Civic and acting like they are hurt and injured. The woman said she saw the driver of the Civic, a man wearing a hat, switch seats with a female passenger immediately after the collision.
She also mentioned that a blanket or tarp was covering the rear window of the Civic. While the alleged scammers were surveying the damage, a man spotted Natasha’s dash cam.
He quickly asked the woman about her insurance before quickly leaving the scene. Also involved in the accident was a red Kia that was following closely behind Natasha’s car at the time of the incident. During the incident, one of the riders in the Honda Civic fled in the red Kia.
Natasha contacted the police after the incident, but they reportedly refused to help her. The woman claims police are citing a policy of not attending non-injury incidents if insurance information is exchanged.
The video has since gone viral, drawing attention to the growing cases of insurance fraud. This includes a “caused accident” where a person tries to intentionally ram their car from a vehicle in order to make a claim.
