Six members of a family were killed after a house collapsed due to a cylinder explosion in Uttar Pradesh’s Bulandshahr on Monday night, officials said. Eight people, including five children, were also injured in the incident, which took place around 9 pm in Sikandrabad’s Ashapuri Colony. The injured, who were pulled from the wreckage, were taken to a hospital for treatment.
The victims have been identified as Devati Hivja, Riyazuddin, his wife Rukhsana, their sons Salman and Aas Mohammad and daughter Tamana.
According to the police, the explosion of the cylinder was so strong that the bricks and beam of the house were blown away.
Locals said the sound of the explosion could be heard several kilometers away and nearby houses were also shaken.
Teams of fire brigade, police department, municipal corporation, doctors and NDRF immediately reached the spot to carry out the rescue operations, officials said. Visuals of the rescue operation shared by news agency ANI showed teams trying to save people by removing the debris with JCBs.

“A cylinder blast has occurred in a house in Ashapuri Colony. There were 18 to 19 people in the house out of which eight people were rescued whose condition is very critical,” Chandra Prakash Paryadarshi, Bulandshahr City Magistrate told ANI.
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath expressed grief over the loss of life in the incident. He also took cognizance of the incident and instructed the officials to immediately carry out relief and rescue work and provide everything possible to the families of the victims.
The reasons for the explosion are being clarified, the police said.
