NEET-UG exam controversy: Supreme Court extends deadline for expert panel report on NEET-UG exam controversy by two weeks | – Times of India

New Delhi, Oct 21 (IANS) The Supreme Court on Monday granted two weeks’ additional time to the high-level panel of experts constituted by the Center in the wake of the NEET-UG exam controversy to submit its report.

New Delhi, The Supreme Court on Monday granted an additional two weeks to the High Level Committee of Experts formed by the Center in the wake of the NEET-UG exam controversy to submit its report.
A bench headed by Chief Justice DY Chandrachud and comprising Justices JB Pardiwala and Manoj Misra approved the extension after Attorney General Tushar Mehta informed the court that while the report was almost complete, some time was needed to finalize it.
The Union Education Ministry constituted a seven-member committee on June 26 with Dr K Radhakrishnan, former chairman of ISRO and current chairman of the Governing Council of IIT Kanpur, to suggest recommendations to ensure transparent, smooth and fair examinations conducted by the National Agency for testing (NTA).
The high-level expert committee was formed after the SC asked the Center to detail the steps taken to ensure the immunity of NEETs in future.
Refusing to order a re-test, the Supreme Court, in its detailed judgment delivered on August 2, directed the expert committee to formulate a standard operating procedure (SOP) regarding registration schedule, change of examination centers, sealing of OMR sheets, and other processes , related to the conduct of exams.
“The report of the commission shall be submitted to the Union Ministry of Education by September 30. The Ministry of Education shall rule on the recommendations made by the commission within one month of receiving the report,” he ordered.
The apex court also struck down the NTA’s decision to award compensatory marks to 1,563 students due to wastage of time, which was later recalled after several petitions were filed before the apex court.
“We have said that the NTA should now shun the flip flops it has done in this case as it does not serve the interest of the students,” the SC observed. The Union government had assured the Supreme Court that its judgment would be implemented in true letter and spirit.
