American rapper Eminem and former Democratic President Barack Obama shared the stage at Kamala Harrisrally in Detroit, Michigan, just two weeks before The US presidential election is scheduled for November 5. Eminem, a supporter of the Democratic Party, previously endorsed Barack Obama and the Biden-Harris candidacy in the 2020 election.
The Grammy-winning rapper, 52, introduced Obama, 63, at the rally, where the 44th US president began his speech by quoting Eminem’s 2002 hit song “Lose Yourself.” The crowd erupted in excitement.
“I’ve been to a lot of rallies, so I don’t usually get nervous. But I kind of felt after Eminem,” Obama said. “I noticed my palms are sweaty, my knees are weak, my arms are heavy, I’m already throwing up on my sweater, mom’s spaghetti.”
As the crowd cheered, Obama continued rapping the hit song, which won Grammys for Best Rap Song and Best Male Rap Solo Performance in 2004.
“I’m nervous, but on the surface I look calm and ready to drop bombs, but I keep forgetting,” Obama said, ending with “I love me some Eminem.”
Eminem, who is originally from Detroit, expressed his support for Harris and emphasized the importance of Michigan in the upcoming election.
“I’m here tonight for a few important reasons,” the “Houdini” rapper said. “As most of you know, the city of Detroit and the entire state of Michigan mean a lot to me, and going into this election, the spotlight is on us more than ever. I think it’s important to use your voice, so I encourage everyone to get out and vote, please.”
Eminem was a harsh critic of Harris’ rival, Donald TrumpThe 78-year-old Republican presidential candidate. In October 2017, he performed a nearly five-minute freestyle rap at the BET Awards where he criticized the 45th president, who at the time was completing his first year in office.
