Outsourcing giant Mitie is launching a search for a new chairman

Mitie Group, the London-listed outsourcing company, has launched a search for a successor to Derek Mapp, its longtime chairman.

Sky News has learned that the FTSE-250 company is working with search firm MWM Consulting to find Mr Mapp’s replacement.

Prospective candidates have begun to be sought in the past few weeks, according to City sources.

Mr Mapp has been on Mitie’s board since 2017, meaning he will no longer be considered independent for corporate governance purposes from May 2026.

It was unclear Friday whether he plans to work through his ninth anniversary or leave the company sooner.

Under his leadership and that of Phil Bentley, the company’s CEO, Mitie’s performance has steadily improved in recent years.

The company provides cleaning and security services to large corporate and government clients and saw a surge in demand from the public sector during the post-election riots that swept the country.

Among Mitie’s contracts are the management of a number of prisons and migrant detention centres.

Mitie’s shares were trading at around 117.8p on Friday afternoon, giving it a market capitalization of around £1.5bn.

Mitty declined to comment.
