A 60-year-old man has been arrested after a shooting in Sydney’s inner west that left several cars damaged and one person hospitalised with a gunshot wound.

Streets at Croydon Park were closed and the area put in lockdown on Sunday night as police launched a major operation.

They said while investigations were ongoing a man was arrested about 9.30pm at a unit above a business on Georges River Road, where the shots allegedly were fired from, and firearms were seized.

The suspect was taken to hospital under police guard for injuries sustained during the arrest.

Paramedics treated 16 people at the scene for minor injuries and shots reportedly damaged several cars including a police vehicle, authorities said.

Police said a man appeared at Canterbury hospital with a gunshot wound and was later transported to Royal Prince Alfred hospital in a serious condition.

Two other people were taken to hospital after being treated by paramedics.

No officers were injured in the shooting, police said.
