Stricter air pollution curbs below Stage 4 of the Graded Response Motion Plan have enforced in Delhi-NCR because the air high quality entered “extreme” class on Saturday night, January 17.
The Fee for Air High quality Administration (CAQM) took the choice a day after imposing GRAP Stage 3 restrictions.
The 24-hour common Air High quality Index (AQI) in Delhi Saturday was recorded at 354, within the “very poor” class, and it deteriorated to 416, “extreme”, by 6 pm. Underneath the GRAP, air high quality is categorised as poor (AQI 201-300), very poor (301-400), extreme (401-450) and extreme plus (above 450).
This comes at a time when the area is scuffling with fog — which turns into smog because of the presence of smoke or particulate matter — and excessive winter chill.
