According to news agency ANI, Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav is unhappy with his party colleague over his comments on the Hindu epic Ramcharitmanas and a press conference may be held on the matter. According to the report, several party MLAs have also decided to distance themselves from Maurya’s statement and have taken up the matter with the party chief over phone.

Swami Prasad Maurya on Sunday courted controversy by calling Ramacharitmanas written by Goswami Tulsidas for promoting social discrimination and spreading hatred. Speaking to a news channel, the SP leader, who parted ways with the BJP ahead of the 2022 UP Assembly elections, said some verses of the epic were “casteist and insulting” to the backward community and Dalits. And they should be removed.

“Religion aims at the welfare and strengthening of humanity. If certain lines in Ramacharitmanas insult a section of society on the basis of ‘caste’, ‘varna’ and ‘varga’, then it is definitely ‘Dharma’. No, ‘adharm’. There are some lines that mention caste names like ‘Teli’ and ‘Kumar’,” said Maurya, who is considered a prominent OBC leader in the state.

While the BJP demanded that he apologize and withdraw his statement, followers in Ayodhya and the saffron brigade across the state rose up against his controversial remarks. A local leader of the Akhil Bharat Hindu Mahasabha announced on Monday. Whoever cuts the SP leader’s tongue will be given a reward of Rs 51,000.

“We took the statue of Swami Prasad Maurya for cremation and left it in the Yamuna. The police tried to stop us from doing so, but there was no stopping the disgruntled ABHM workers,” he said. Sanjay Jat, spokesperson of the organization said.

Whoever cuts the tongue of SP leader and former minister in the state cabinet, Swami Prasad Maurya, will be rewarded. 51,000,” announced Saurabh Sharma, district unit in-charge of ABHM.
