Entertainment NewsAkshay Kumar praises PM Modi for asking BJP leaders to avoid unnecessary comments on films: 'Now that he has said this...'

Actor Akshay Kumar has reacted to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent statement asking BJP workers and leaders to refrain from making unnecessary comments on irrelevant issues like films. At the trailer launch event of his upcoming film Selfie in Mumbai, Akshay said that if PM Narendra Modi‘s comment brings a change that will be great for the film industry. He also said that the industry goes through several processes to make a film and if anyone makes a comment, things get ‘messy’. PM Narendra Modi’s statement comes amid the recent anti-Pathan protests and boycott trend. News agency PTI quoted BJP sources as saying that PM Modi advised party workers to avoid such remarks as they backfire on the party’s development agenda. Many movies, TV and web shows have been at the center of controversy as they have faced accusations of hurting people’s sentiments.

On Sunday, Akshay reacted to PM Modi’s statement. As quoted by The Indian Express, the actor said, “Positivity is always welcome. And the same is being said about our Prime Minister. He is the biggest influencer in India. If They are saying something and if things change, it will be great for the industry.”

Akshay also said, “And why not, things have to change, because we go through a lot. We make films, go to the censor board, get them passed and then someone says something and then it’s messed up.” But now that he’s said it, I think it’ll be better for us.”

Pathan is the most recent film to face calls for a boycott. The film stars Shah Rukh Khan, Deepika Padukone, John Abraham, Dimple Kapadia and Ashutosh Rana. Directed by Siddharth Anand, Pathan will hit theaters on January 25 in Hindi, Tamil and Telugu.

The official trailer of Akshay’s Selfie was unveiled on Sunday. The three-minute long trailer shows Emraan playing the role of a cop who wants to take a selfie with his favorite actor Vijay (played by Akshay). As events unfold, the two actors find themselves at loggerheads.

Directed by Raj Mehta, the film stars Akshay, Emraan Hashmi, Nusrat Bharucha and Diana Penty in lead roles. The film is all set to hit the theaters on February 24. Selfie is the official Hindi remake of the Malayalam film Driving License, starring Prithviraj and Suraj Venjaramudhu in the lead roles. Akshay and Emraan will reprise their roles in the remake.
