In a recent chat, Director Anees Bazmee told the behind-the-scenes story of how he convinced Saw to join the project and shared his response when he first heard the script.
While talking to Pinkvilla, Anees discussed casting of Vidya Balan as Manjulika, emphasizing his belief that she was the perfect choice for the role. He noted her immense popularity and outstanding performance in the previous film stating, “Mujhe toh hamesha lag raha tha ki yeh Manjulika agar Vidya ji kar le. Anees spoke about how they approached Vidya Balan for the role, expressing how lucky she was that she liked the script. “She said, ‘Of the stories I’ve heard, there’s only one story that really resonated with me,'” he said.
During the a storywhich lasted about ten minutes, Anes was eager to gauge her reaction. After hearing the story, she expressed her excitement by saying, “Bahut the fun will come.”
Anees revealed that after a follow-up meeting about 10 to 15 days later, they provided Vidya Balan with a complete narrative of the film. He felt that within the first ten minutes she had already made up her mind and was emotionally committed to the project. His understanding of her commitment was confirmed when she decided to officially join the film after hearing the full story. This demonstrates Vidya’s quick connection with the story and her enthusiasm for the role.
Anees concluded, “She may have made a comeback after 17 years in ‘Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3’. He did a very beautiful job in the finale of the film.”
