A chartered flight from Moscow, Russia to Goa received a bomb threat that diverted the flight to an airport in Uzbekistan, officials have revealed.

A bomb threat on a flight operated by Azur Air was received through an email addressed to the director of the Dabolim airport in Goa.

“We received the threat and immediately informed the airline. The plane had not yet entered Indian airspace and was diverted to an airport in Uzbekistan,” an official said on condition of anonymity. told.

The Goa airport has beefed up security including deployment of anti-terrorist squad, fire fighters and additional police personnel in view of the threat.

The incident came nearly two weeks after another chartered flight from Russia, belonging to Azor Air, was diverted to Gujarat’s Jamnagar airport on January 9, after an e-mail alerted to the presence of a bomb. After a thorough check of the plane, passengers and their luggage, the plane was cleared for take-off about nine hours later and the email threat was dismissed as a hoax.

Ernest Dias of Sita Travel Agency, which is handling the arrival of the charter flight, confirmed that they have been informed about the delay.

“We got information that there was another incident, but the plane had not yet entered Indian airspace. I understand that the plane will be fully cleared soon and cleared for take-off. ” said Dias.
