NEW DELHI: Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Tuesday mentioned filed a Rs 500 crore defamation case in opposition to Congress leaders Gaurav Gogoi, Jitendra Singh and Bhupesh Baghel, accusing them of constructing false and defamatory allegations in opposition to him.In a put up on X, Sarma mentioned the case adopted remarks made at a Congress press convention. “Right now, I’ve filed a defamation case searching for ₹500 crore in damages in opposition to Congress leaders Jitendra Singh, Bhupesh Baghel and Gaurav Gogoi for making false, malicious and defamatory allegations in opposition to me by means of a press convention,” he wrote.
The Assam chief minister mentioned he was initiating each civil and legal proceedings. “I’m initiating civil and legal defamation proceedings on 9 February 2026 in opposition to @JitendraSAlwar, @bhupeshbaghel, @GauravGogoiAsm and @DsaikiaOfficial for making false, malicious and defamatory statements in opposition to me in at this time’s press convention,” Sarma mentioned.“The period of hit-and-run politics is over.
