Brazilian soccer player Dani Alves was arrested in Spain on Friday for allegedly sexually assaulting a woman.
Police told The Associated Press that the alleged act took place on December 31 at a nightclub in Barcelona.
Alves will now go before a judge, who will decide on the charges.
A sexual assault charge in Spain can mean anything from unsolicited and unwanted sex to rape. The police say that they cannot give any details about the case.
Alves, 39, is one of football’s most successful players, having won major titles with several elite clubs including Barcelona, Juventus and Paris Saint-Germain. He currently plays with Mexican club Pumas.
