Defence ministry inks Rs 5,083 cr pact for acquisition of six Mk-III gentle helicopters and missiles

The Ministry of Defence signed contracts value Rs 5,083 crore for the acquisition of six Superior Mild Helicopters (ALH) Mk-III (Maritime Function) and Floor-to-Air Vertical LaunchShtil missiles.

The contracts had been inked within the presence of Defence Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh at South Block, New Delhi.

The contract for acquisition of ALH Mk-III (MR) from has been inked with Hindustan Aeronautics Restricted was valued at Rs 2,901 crore. It consists of operational function tools, an engineering help bundle, and performance-based logistics help for the Indian Coast Guard.

The contract for the procurement of Floor-to-Air Vertical Launch – Shtil missiles and related missile holding frames was valued at Rs 2,182 crore. It has been signed with JSC Rosoboronexport, Russian Federation.

“The acquisition is meant to considerably improve the air defence capabilities of frontline warships towards a large spectrum of aerial threats,” the ministry stated in an announcement.

The Shtil missile system will reinforce the layered air defence structure onboard the platforms of the Indian Navy by offering rapid-reaction, all-weather engagement functionality and improved survivability in contested maritime environments.

The Defence Ministry famous that the contract underscores the longstanding and time-tested defence partnership between India and Russia, based on mutual belief and strategic alignment.
