Former president Barack Obama came on stage vegas on Sunday endorsing the Democratic presidential nominee Kamala Harris and Governor of Minnesota Tim Waltz as part of a campaign leading up to November 5, US presidential election.
Speaking to an enthusiastic crowd, Obama praised Harris’ leadership and emphasized the importance of her potential partnership with Walz. “Kamala will have an extraordinary partner in the White House in Tim Walz,” Obama said, expressing his admiration for the Minnesota governor.
Obama went on to list Waltz’s impressive qualities, calling him a dedicated public servant with a unique background. “I love this guy. Tim’s a veteran, he’s a teacher, he’s a football coach. He’s 100 percent committed,” the former president said. “Tim Waltz has been a great governor, working with Democrats and Republicans to get things done,” he added.
Comparing the Minnesota governor’s features to Trump, Obama quipped, “I just found out that Tim can take apart vintage trucks and put them back together. Donald Trump has he even changed a tire in his life? If he gets a flat tire, he calls Jeeves. “Jeeves, change my tire,” quipped Obama, drawing laughter from the crowd.
Getting to the heart of his message, Obama outlined the difference between the leadership style of Harris and Waltz and that of their opponents. “The thing is, if you elect Kamala and Tim, they’re not going to focus on their own problems — they’re going to focus on yours,” he said.
“They will work hard to make your life better, bring people together and tackle the real issues facing this country.”
Obama echoed his grandfather’s mockery of Trump, saying, “Have you seen Trump lately? He’s out there giving two-hour speeches that are completely unrelated.”
“You’d be worried if your grandfather behaved like that – now imagine it from someone who seeks unchecked power. We don’t need to know what an even older, more erratic Donald Trump looks like without any railings,” he added.
