India on Saturday urged all countries in conflict-ridden West Asia to “exercise restraint” and reminded them that continued hostilities benefit no one, shortly after Israel struck military sites in Iran early on Saturday in retaliation for an Iranian attack this month.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a statement urging all parties to seek a diplomatic solution to the issue. “We are deeply concerned about the developing escalation in West Asia and its ramifications for peace and stability in the region and beyond. We reiterate our appeal to all concerned to exercise restraint and return to the path of dialogue and diplomacy,” the ministry said in a statement.

“Continued hostilities benefit no one, even as innocent hostages and civilians continue to suffer,” he added.

It further states that Indian missions in the region are in contact with the Indian community.
