Forensic Report Clears Actor Shine Tom Chacko in Drug Consumption Case
In a major setback for the Kochi City Police, a forensic examination has cleared Malayalam actor Shine Tom Chacko of allegations related to drug consumption in a case registered earlier this year.
Police sources confirmed that laboratory analysis of the actor’s body fluid samples returned negative results, leaving little scope to pursue the drug-related charges further.
Case Linked to April Hotel Raid in Kochi
The case dates back to April 16, 2025, when Shine Tom Chacko fled a hotel in Kaloor during a late-night raid conducted by the city police’s District Anti-Narcotics Special Action Force (DANSAF).
The raid took place within the limits of the Ernakulam Town North Police Station, following a tip-off about the presence of a suspected drug peddler at the hotel.
Police later examined CCTV footage, which showed the actor escaping dramatically from his third-floor room — climbing through a window, landing on the asbestos roof of the floor below, crossing the swimming pool area, reaching the reception via stairs, and fleeing the premises as a pillion rider on a two-wheeler.
Why Forensic Tests Were Ordered
According to police officials, no drugs or narcotic substances were recovered from the actor’s hotel room, nor was there any direct evidence proving possession or consumption at the site.
However, the police decided to proceed with forensic testing due to what they described as the “panic-driven manner” in which the actor fled during the raid.
“We did not find any material evidence from the room. But considering his sudden escape, we decided to send his body fluid samples for forensic analysis to verify whether he had consumed any banned substances,” a senior police source said.
With the forensic report now returning negative, investigators said there is insufficient ground to continue proceedings related to drug consumption.
Actor’s Statement and Police Doubts
During questioning that followed the incident, Shine Tom Chacko reportedly told police that he ran away because he mistook the plainclothes officers for criminals and feared for his safety.
Police officials, however, said they were unconvinced by the explanation, questioning why the actor did not alert authorities if he genuinely believed his life was in danger. His escape also occurred at a time when allegations of drug abuse on film sets were under public discussion, adding to the scrutiny.
Charges and Other Accused
Police maintained that the case was registered after the interrogation revealed issues warranting investigation and because the actor’s conduct during the raid appeared suspicious.
Another individual, Ahmmed Murshad (25) from Malappuram, who was allegedly present in the hotel room, was also booked in the case.
The accused were charged under:
- Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) Section 238 – causing disappearance of evidence
- NDPS Act Section 27(b) – consumption of narcotic drugs or psychotropic substances
- NDPS Act Section 29 – abetment and criminal conspiracy
With the forensic report ruling out drug consumption by the actor, police sources indicated that the case has now significantly weakened.
