Initially, he struggled with academics and failed in 6th standard. He later completed his education at DAV College in Chandigarh.

Zomato has become one of the leading startups in the country. We’ve heard about the company’s founder and CEO Deepinder Goyal in several places. His success story has inspired thousands of budding entrepreneurs in the country. Being a resident of a small village in Punjab, he was not interested in studies during his childhood days. He even failed in 6th grade. However, with sheer hard work and dedication, he managed to secure admission to IIT where he dreamed of building a billion dollar company.

Dipinder Goyal was born in the town of Sri Muktsar Sahib, Punjab. He came from a humble family. Both his parents were teachers. Although he initially struggled with academics and failed in the 6th standard, he later completed his education at DAV College in Chandigarh. In 2001, he cleared the JEE Advanced exam and got into IIT Delhi to pursue a B.Sc in Mathematics and Computer Technology. After completing his college studies, he started working in a company in Delhi.

While working, Deepinder noticed that his colleagues often discussed food and ordered meals. These frequent discussions sparked the idea of a food delivery app in his mind. Deepinder decided to quit his job and started a food delivery startup called Foodiebay along with Pankaj Chaddah. The company was rebranded to Zomato in 2010.

Today, Zomato has a market capitalization of around Rs 2.4 lakh crore. Apart from Zomato, Deepinder has also invested in several other companies. The company also acquired the Blinkit trading app, which gave its business a major boost. He is also reported to have founded the Zomato Future Foundation, focusing on the education of the children of Zomato’s delivery partners. He also donated shares worth Rs 700 crore to the foundation.

Deepinder was recently in the spotlight because he took a day to work as a food delivery agent alongside his wife to experience first-hand the challenges that delivery partners face. He talked to the partners and promised to solve the problems.
