A massive fire broke out at a popular nightclub, Birch by Romeo Lane, in Arpora village late on Sunday, claiming 25 lives, including four tourists and 14 staff members, according to officials. The tragedy occurred around 12 am, approximately 25 kilometres from Panaji, and shocked the coastal state known for its nightlife and tourism.
Arrests and Inquiry Initiated
Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant, who visited the site early Monday morning, confirmed that the general manager of the nightclub has been arrested.
An arrest warrant has also been issued against the club owner, he said.
A magisterial inquiry has been ordered to determine how the fire started, whether safety norms were followed, and to identify any lapses in emergency response.
Prime Minister Responds
Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed deep sorrow over the incident and said he had spoken with the Chief Minister regarding the situation and ongoing rescue efforts. He extended condolences to the families of the victims.
