Governance Reforms: CAG Murthy Lays Out Roadmap for Viksit Bharat, Stresses Access & Data-Driven Systems
Governance Reforms: CAG K Sanjay Murthy Outlines Roadmap for Viksit Bharat, Stresses Access & Data-Driven Systems. Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) of India K Sanjay Murthy on Friday emphasised that expanding public access, strengthening data-driven decision-making and advancing institutional maturity in financial governance are essential components of Indiaโs Viksit Bharat vision. His remarks were delivered during the Viksit Bharat talk at the 100th Common Foundation Course at the Lal Bahadur Shastri National Academy of Administration (LBSNAA) in Mussoorie, PTI reported.
Addressing 660 officer trainees, Murthy highlighted the crucial role young civil servants will play in shaping governance outcomes across sectors over the coming decades.
Data-Driven Governance Key to Better Results
Murthy underscored that systematic data collection, proper documentation and evidence-based policymaking help improve institutional accountability and enhance the overall impact of government interventions.
He noted that several Indian institutions that were initially hesitant to participate in global ranking systems later benefited from the insights these frameworks offer. Engagement with QS World University Rankings, Times Higher Education (THE) and other assessment systems provided universities with a clearer understanding of research quality, employability outcomes, gender representation and Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) preparedness.
According to Murthy, improvements in datasets, documentation and employer outreach have helped many Indian institutions perform better internationally, highlighting the value of robust data frameworks created by ministries, national ranking bodies and global evaluators.
Strengthening Financial Transparency
The CAG urged trainee officers to prioritise financial transparency, maintain accurate accounts and build resilient administrative systems. Such improvements, he said, not only enhance public trust but also enable institutions to unlock funding opportunities and deliver better governance outcomes.
He further encouraged civil servants to remain grounded and accessible to citizens while drawing from institutional experience to remove bureaucratic bottlenecks that hinder transparency and service delivery.
โThe quality of governance you deliver will depend on integrity, competence and a willingness to learn,โ Murthy told the trainees.
Sports Meet Inauguration
During his visit, K Sanjay Murthy also inaugurated the Khel Mahotsav (Sports Meet) of the 100th Common Foundation Course, marking the beginning of the academyโs annual sporting events.
