The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) have announced that they have discovered documents in the Gaza Strip that allegedly link six Al Jazeera journalists to Hamas and the Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ) groups. The IDF said Anas al-Sharif, Alaa Salameh, Hossam Shabat, Ashraf al-Saraj, Ismail Abu Omar and Talal al-Aruki posed as journalists while participating in the fighting for Hamas and the PIJ.

The Israel Defense Forces identified Anas al-Sharif as allegedly serving as the leader of a rocket-launching unit and a member of the Nuhba Force within Hamas’ Nuseirat Battalion.
Alaa Salameh is listed as the deputy head of the Shabura Battalion’s propaganda department, linked to Islamic Jihad.
Hossam Shabat is reported to be a sniper operating in the Beit Hanoun Battalion of Hamas.
Ashraf al-Sarraj has been identified as a member of the Islamic Jihad-linked Bureij Battalion.
Ismail Abu Omar is said to be the commander of a training company in the East Khan Younis Battalion and was injured in an Israeli airstrike a few months ago.
Talal al-Arrouqi is described as a team commander in Hamas’ Nuseirat Battalion.
The military released documents it claimed contained personnel spreadsheets, lists of training programs, contact directories and payroll records.
The IDF claims these documents “unequivocally prove” the journalists’ role as members of the military wings of Hamas and Islamic Jihad.
“These documents are proof of the involvement of Hamas terrorists in the Qatari media network Al Jazeera,” IS said in a statement.
