Iraqi safety official says drone hits U.S. Embassy in Baghdad
An explosion was heard in Baghdad early Wednesday (March 18, 2026), an AFP journalist mentioned, as Iraqi officers reported a drone and rocket assault focusing on the U.S. embassy.
One other witness noticed a hearth on the sting of the embassy grounds from her balcony, and a safety official mentioned the blaze was attributable to a drone. “The embassy was the goal of a drone and rocket assault,” the official mentioned, talking on situation of anonymity.
One other drone, focusing on a U.S. diplomatic and logistics centre at Baghdad’s airport, was shot down, based on one other safety official.
Hours later, an AFP journalist heard one other explosion, with a safety official saying “a drone instantly hit the embassy”. The official didn’t specify whether or not there had been any casualties or injury.
