The Israeli military has confirmed the killing of Hezbollah leader Hashem Safieddin, the heir apparent to the group’s slain leader Hassan Nasrallah. In an October 22 announcement, the IDF said it had “eliminated” Safieddine in a strike in a southern suburb of Beirut three weeks ago. The Israeli military said Nasrallah’s heir apparent was killed along with the head of Hezbollah’s intelligence directorate in the strike. Later, the IDF said Israel’s air force “conducted a precision, intelligence-based strike against Hezbollah’s main intelligence headquarters” in Beirut in early October. “We have reached Nasrallah, his deputy and most of Hezbollah’s senior leadership,” the Israeli army chief said in a statement late on October 22. The Lebanese armed group has yet to issue a statement on Israel’s claim.
