British socialite and former close friend of Meghan Markle, Lizzie Cundymake bold claims about Duchess of Sussexthe recent appearance of Children’s Hospital Los Angeles Galaaccusing her of seeking attention rather than offering genuine support for the cause.
Lizzie Cundy, 56, who also attended the event last Saturday, said Meghan’s only purpose in turning up was “for the photos”.
The Duchess of Sussex made a striking appearance at the gala evening, straying from her usual slicked-back hairstyle and instead going for soft waves and accessorizing her look with minimal jewelery and subtle make-up, wearing a red dress. She opted for a simpler style this time around, ditching the train on her $5,990 (£4,568) dress.
Cundy, who attended the gala in a $339 (£259) Pia Michi dress with a pattern similar to that of the Duchess of Sussex, told the Daily Mail: ‘There wasn’t a lot of warmth from people when she arrived. She wasn’t there for long – it seems she was there for the shoot.’
“Meghan needs L.A. more than L.A. needs her. People in LA think they’ve been played by her,” she said.
“I would have worn a different one if I had known,” she added.
This event took place as Prince Harry embarked on a two-week “quasi-royal tour” without her. The former friends almost crossed paths at the Children’s Hospital Los Angeles Gala with her close friend Kelly McKee Seiffen.
The British socialite had previously met Meghan when the future duchess first traveled to the UK, but was “ghostly” when Meghan got engaged to Prince Harry in 2017.
“Once the ring was on my finger I soon realized she was off Twitter and her number was down and that was it,” Cundy previously told Grazia, Sky
“I’m afraid both Piers Morgan and I was haunted,” she added.
Cundy, the ex-wife of retired Chelsea footballer Jason Cundy, is among several high-profile figures no longer on good terms with Meghan, along with Victoria Beckham and a Canadian socialite Jessica Mulroney.
