Kamala HarrisThe campaign and affiliated Democratic groups raised about $633 million in the quarter that ended last month, bringing their total to more than $1 billion while maintaining a large financial lead over the Republican nominee Donald Trump in the final sprint of the presidential elections.
The vice president’s campaign, the Democratic National Committee and state parties raised more than $359 million in September alone. Harris’ campaign raised about $222 million in September. Harris’ team alone spent more than it took in last month, paying out about $270 million to help fuel a major advertising push as it works to reach voters through radio, television, online, billboards and other avenues.
Harris’ campaign and related committees entered October with $346 million on hand, according to federal filings.
The Trump campaign, the Republican National Committee and related groups previously reported raising $160 million in September — up from the $130 million they reported raising in August. They had $283 million in the bank as of early October.
Harris’ campaign did not preview its quarterly withdrawal before filing financial records. It was a break from tradition when he reported large monthly totals that far exceeded those raised by Trump and the GOP since Harris took over from President Joe Biden in July.
Before its latest filings, however, Harris’ campaign said Sunday night that 95 percent of its donations in the third quarter were under $200. About 6 million donors have made more than 13.1 million donations to Harris, including 4.3 million first-time donors this election cycle, the campaign said.
Harris also used star power to boost donations.
The vice president’s team said she raised $55 million in one weekend in late September when she went to a fundraiser in California. She raised $28 million at an event in Los Angeles that featured a host of stars including Jessica Alba, Lily Tomlin and Stevie Wonder. She also raised $27 million at an event in San Francisco attended by former Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi.
Last weekend, Harris raised $27 million at a glitzy New York fundraiser.
