“Multiple outages are being reported from different parts of the city. We are investigating the matter and will keep the location posted,” K Electric spokesperson Imran Rana said in a Twitter post.

Confirming the development, Pakistan’s Geo News reported that several areas in Karachi and Lahore were without power.

“#BREAKING: Nationwide power outage in #Pakistan since 7:30am,” Pakistani journalist Asad Ali Toor tweeted.

According to Quetta Electric Supply Company (KESCO), two transmission lines from Guddu to Quetta were tripped. The company added that 22 districts of Balochistan, including Quetta, are deprived of electricity.

Pakistan announced a new energy conservation plan this month as its fragile economy grapples with a number of challenges that have seen the country’s foreign exchange reserves run dangerously low.

Earlier in October last year, Pakistan experienced a major power breakdown that left large parts of the country, including the provincial capitals Karachi and Lahore, without power for more than 12 hours. (ANI)
