Meta Platforms Inc’s social media apps appeared to be back up after experiencing a brief outage in the United States on Wednesday, data from the outage-tracking website Downdetector.com showed.
At the peak of the outage, as of 2352 GMT, more than 17,000 user reports had identified problems with Instagram in the United States. More than 13,000 incidents were reported for the Facebook app, and outage reports for WhatsApp and Facebook Messenger also spiked briefly around the same time.
Down detector Tracks outages by aggregating status reports from multiple sources, including user-submitted errors on its platform.
Outages of big tech platforms are not unusual, as companies ranging from Alphabet Inc’s Google to Microsoft Corp have seen service disruptions.
Microsoft suffered a networking outage early Wednesday that knocked out its cloud platform Azure along with services like Teams and Outlook, affecting millions of users globally.
Meta did not immediately respond to Reuters’ request for comment.
