Mumbai Indians (MI) finished last in the 2024 season at Indian Premier League (IPL) and hope to turn that around under their new head coach, Mahela Jayawardene.
Jayawardene evolved from his role as global head of MI Cricketwhere he oversaw the expansion of the franchisee around the world in various leagues.
The former Sri Lankan captain will be assisted by his former teammate and pacer Lasith Malinga, who is the team’s bowling coach.
Adding more muscle to the coaching staff, MI have reunited with former India player Paras Mambri, who will work with Malinga and be part of Jayawardene’s coaching staff.
Mhambrey will return to MI fresh from his stint as India’s bowling coach, which culminated in a T20 World Cup triumph.
“My journey within the MI family has always been an evolution. In 2017, the focus was on getting a talented group of people together to play the best cricket ever and we did very well. Now to come back, at the same moment in history, where we look forward to the future and the opportunity to further strengthen the love for MI, build on the vision of the owners and continue to add to the history of Mumbai Indians, is an exciting challenge that I look forward to looking forward to it,” Jayawardene said after his appointment.
