NEW DELHI: T20 World Cup winner Arshdeep Singh does not like to worry about the past or the future. The left-arm pacer prefers to live in the present.
The 25-year-old, who is leading the Indian pace attack in the current three-match T20I series against Bangladeshmade his debut only two years ago but has already played 55 games T20Isincluding two world championships.
“I’m enjoying my game and I didn’t even realize how these two years went by. I just try to stay in the present, enjoy the highs and lows, that’s my focus,” Arshdeep said ahead of the second T20I against Bangladesh on Tuesday.
“My life’s mantra is to enjoy the present. Today is my day off, so I’m going to enjoy my day off today. Kal ka kal dekhenge (I will think of tomorrow when it comes). The T20 World Cup is two years away, a long way off “I don’t think much about the future,” he added when asked about his future.
The Punjab bowler makes a case for his maiden Test cap but is reluctant to discuss it. He developed his red ball skills through county cricket last season and recently put in an outstanding performance in the Duleep Trophy.
“I want to do my best in all formats where I have the opportunity,” he said
“I’m glad we can see how quickly you can adapt to the conditions, pitch sizes and format,” remarked Arshdeep when asked about the difference he has noticed in his white-ball skills since switching to playing all formats .
“It gives players an opportunity to explore their skills. How he can take loopholes in different ways, how he can absorb the pressure.
“Playing in different formats teaches players a lot. With a red ball you get more overs to play, it teaches you patience, here (in T20s) you don’t need patience, you have to think about what a batsman can do.”
The second match of the series is expected to be very productive, with the hosts leading 1-0. The teams reached the 200-run mark eight times in the five IPL games played in Arun Jaitley Stadium earlier this year.
“We (Punjab Kings) didn’t have a game here in the IPL this season, but seeing the results on this ground, I didn’t want to see the wicket.
“We will come tomorrow and assess the conditions and make the appropriate plans. The coach and captain will check the wicket and tell us the plan,” said Arshdeep.
