The Lok Sabha on Monday handed the Insolvency and Chapter Code (Modification) Invoice, 2025, aimed toward accelerating decision processes for defaulting firms. A key function of the Invoice is the introduction of a compulsory 14-day timeline for admitting insolvency functions as soon as a default is established.
Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman knowledgeable the Home that the federal government has proposed 12 amendments to the Code to bolster the decision ecosystem. She famous that in depth litigation has been the first reason for delays and confirmed that the Invoice introduces penalties to stop the abuse of authorized processes.
The Invoice, which was beforehand referred to a Choose Committee, was taken up for dialogue on March 27. It seeks to deal with procedural hurdles in resolving insolvency circumstances for each firms and people. This marks the seventh time the IBC has been amended since its inception in 2016.
