PM Modi chairs NDA Chief Ministers meeting, discusses governance issues

New Delhi:

Chief Ministers of 19 NDA-ruled states met in Chandigarh today for a much-awaited meeting to discuss matters related to governance and upcoming events of the government, including one to celebrate the Constitution – Samvidhan ki Amrut Mahotsav. The meeting – held shortly after the swearing-in ceremony of Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini – was chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

In a post on X, PM Modi shared photos from the meeting. “Chairman meeting of NDA Chief Ministers and Deputy Chief Ministers. We had extensive discussions on aspects of good governance and ways to improve people’s lives. Our union is committed to further national progress and empowerment of the poor and the downtrodden,” his post read.

“The Prime Minister noted that since independence yesterday, for the first time, the swearing-in ceremony in Jammu and Kashmir was held according to the Indian Constitution. Earlier, the swearing-in ceremony in J&K was conducted under the Constitution of Jammu and Kashmir,” said BJP chief JP Nadda, who attended the meeting along with Union ministers Amit Shah and Rajnath.

“Amit Shah ji has proposed in 2025 that we discuss how democracy was killed by the imposition of emergency… Next year we will celebrate 150 years of Birsa Munda and Sardar Patel and the 100th birth anniversary of Atal Bihari Vajpayee,” he added .

“The discussions at this meeting will have a structured agenda covering issues of national development. Topics like commemoration of Samvidhan Ka Amrut Mahotsav and 50th anniversary year of attempt to kill democracy will also be discussed,” said a government statement issued ahead of the meeting.

With the BJP and its allies poised to take on the opposition alliance in next month’s elections in Maharashtra and Jharkhand, the ruling bloc is looking to build momentum from its victory in Haryana to attack its rivals.

Thirteen chief ministers and 16 deputy chief ministers from the BJP participated along with allies — chief ministers from Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Bihar, Sikkim, Nagaland and Meghalaya, which are governed by NDA partners.
