Prince Harry urged leaders to “start listening” for greater impact on their solo journey to South Africa where he is on a charity visit Sentebalethe Daily Mail reported.
Sitting around the fire with Prince Siiso of Lesotho, Harry spoke about the charity’s progress and the importance of engaging with youth voices.
“We’re hitting targets, not just Sentebale but all the departments and that makes a huge difference and it’s that burst of energy and optimism and the voice of young people from six to 25 – and the biggest difference that really needs more job, is when the people at the top start listening,” Harry said, according to the Daily Mail.
Prince Seeiso also reflects on Sentebale’s beginnings and the bond he shares with Harry. Addressing him by the affectionate name given by the Basotho people, Zeiso said: “This whole journey of Sentebale started from this element of [Harry] after he came to the motherland — now he’s my younger brother Mohale, the warrior — but the experience of breathing the same air, eating the same food as the kids… that’s what inspired this dream to get to where we are now.”
He added: “But it’s this deeply felt need that we want, collectively, to make a difference in our lives, and not just in our lives, but to leave a legacy and pass the baton to the next generation – so that’s why we’re coming out in all the different angles.”
Sentebale, founded in 2006 by Harry and Prince Seeiso, supports children and young people affected by HIV in South Africa. Harry’s commitment to the cause began in 2004 when he first visited Lesotho during his gap year.
Harry’s trip comes after a brief stopover in the UK for WellChild Awardswhere he did not visit King Charles or Prince William, although he stayed close to their homes. His wife Meghan Markle and their two children Archie and Lilibeth did not accompany him on this trip.
