India is gearing up to celebrate the 74th. Republic Day Thursday with great excitement. President Draupadi Murmu The national flag will be hoisted on the recently unveiled Karthavaya Path, formerly known as the Rajpath, where a grand parade will be held. Every year, millions of people across the country watch the rich tradition, cultural heritage, and progress and achievements of the nation on their television sets. This year’s Republic Day celebrations are themed around ‘Jin Bhagdari (People’s Participation)’.

The chief guest of the ceremony is the President of Egypt, Abdel Fattah al-Sisi. A 120-member contingent of Egypt will also participate in the parade. The Republic Day celebrations are scheduled to begin at 7:30 am, and the national anthem will be sung after the hoisting of the flag.

The parade will start at 10 am which will be telecast live on official channels – Doordarshan and Sansad TV. Radio listeners will also be able to hear it live. The parade will start from Vijay Chowk and proceed towards Red Fort via Kartavaya Path, C Hexagon, Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose Roundabout, Tilak Marg, Bahadur Shah Zafar Marg and Netaji Subhash Marg.

As per tradition, President Murmu will address the nation on the evening of January 25, and PM Modi will extend his greetings to the nation on the morning of January 26.

All three wings of the Indian Defense Forces – Army, Navy and Air Force – will march with their regiments and bands will perform in the parade followed by the presentation of state tableaux depicting their culture.

Republic Day is celebrated to commemorate the adoption of the Indian Constitution. The Indian Constitution was adopted on 26 January 1950.
