Before making his acting debut in Karan Johar’s Student of the Year (2012) opposite Varun Dhawan and Alia Bhatt, Siddharth Malhotra Worked as assistant director in Karan’s My Name is Khan (2010). He and Varun worked together on the sets of Dharma Productions before being launched by the banner itself. In a new interview, the actor recalled his interactions with Shah Rukh Khan on the sets of My Name Is Khan. The senior actor also gave him some tips as he knew that Siddharth wanted to become an actor. When Siddharth first came to Mumbai at the age of 21, he said his parents were not sure if anyone would cast him in a film. He managed to make a film but it never got made. Siddharth walked out of the project when he changed directors, telling them that he no longer believed in the project. Later, he switched to becoming an assistant director because he had never attended film school and could learn on film sets.
It was a wise decision as he got to interact with one of his idols. In a new interview on Netflix India’s YouTube channel, Siddharth talked about working with actor-comedian Zakir Khan. Shahrukh Khan On the first day of shooting in Los Angeles. She recalled, “I practiced clapping so that I wouldn’t bow to him. He was so sweet. His warmth was palpable. It might have been because of his upbringing. He loved everyone around him. Makes the person comfortable.The first day I couldn’t speak.
Later, while working on a scene, Shahrukh also started giving him some advice. Siddharth shared, “It was just Shahrukh sir and I at that point, it was somewhere on the road, and he suddenly started talking to me, ‘You know you should always come first and see what’s going on. You can prop anything up on the spot.’ I thought, ‘There’s only two of us here, who is he talking to?’ Because he knew I wanted to be an actor. So very lovingly he was saying to me, ‘You have to see if you can use something.’ He’s so quick like that. He makes a lot of things on the spot. From there, my respect for him and my love for him grew even more.”
Siddharth’s latest film Mission Majnu, with co-star Rashmika Mandana, premiered on Netflix on January 20. He will also be seen in action thriller Yudha opposite Disha Patani and Rashi Khanna in July 2023.
