The attack in which terrorists, recently returned from Pakistan, indiscriminately shot and killed workers in Gagangir was planned.
Security agencies on Sunday said the terror attack, in which terrorists fired indiscriminately at people near the Z-Morh tunnel work site, was planned and involved a terrorist returning from Pakistan who had carried out a survey of the site before to begin the attack.
The attack was carried out by the terrorist group The Resistance Front (TRF), an offshoot of Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT). The group claimed responsibility for the killings.
They also said they have identified the two terrorists involved and said their names are – Hurera and Khubaib.
So far, six people have died in the terrorist attack in Gagangir and eleven have been injured. At least two of those killed were not local.
“It was a planned attack on workers with the idea of (causing) maximum casualties,” sources said CNN-News 18.
“These two terrorists have done reconnaissance in advance, with all the entrance and exit tunnels,” they added. The tunnel referred to here is the Z-Morh Tunnel. The tunnel under construction is strategically important for the defense.
The tunnel will provide all-weather connectivity to the people and the Indian Army in Ladakh.
Heavy snowfall in Zojila often cuts off Ladakh from Kashmir. This disrupts the movement of forces, people and essential goods and services.
The sources said no new groups were involved and said the TRF carried out the killings.
“Hurera is back from Pakistan and is shuffling between Ganderbal and Harwan. Khubaib is also involved in the attack,” the sources said.
