Communist Party of India (Marxist) [CPI(M)] has criticized VP Chandran, former district committee member of the party, for demanding action against the party’s district secretary CN Mohanan. The CPI(M) alleged that Mr. Chandran was expelled for anti-party activities.
The other day, Mr Chandran demanded Mr Mohanan’s removal “for failing to protect the interests of the common man”.
Disputing his stand, AG Udayakumar, district secretary of the Thrikkakara party, said Mr Chandran had been expelled from the party for “participating in corruption and protecting the corrupt”. The party, he said, had taken disciplinary action against Mr. Chandran for financial irregularities while he was an employee of the heavy-duty workers’ organization. “Mr Chandran still owed the organization ₹1 lakh,” according to the statement.
A financial fraud of ₹10 lakh was identified in a local cooperative bank when a close associate of Mr. Chandran was heading the institution, Mr. Udayakumar alleged. He further accused Mr. Chandran of attacking several party leaders who had repeatedly challenged corruption. Mr. Chandran was now becoming eloquent for workers and their rights after leading anti-party activities in a sustained manner, Mr. Udayakumar alleged in the statement.
