Among the many first parties for the 74th Republic Day, the Egyptian Army contingent was one. Egypt is the host country for Republic Day 2023. Under the leadership of Colonel Mahmoud Mohamed Abdelfattah al-Khorsawi, 144 Egyptian army soldiers marched down the road to Kartawiya as the parade began.

Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi is the chief guest at the 74th Republic Day celebration.

This is also the first time that an Egyptian leader has been invited as the chief guest for Republic Day. El-Sisi was elected as Egypt’s sixth president in May 2014. He graduated from the Egyptian Military Academy in 1977 and was appointed Director of Intelligence in 2010. In August 2012, he was appointed as the Minister of Defense. A day earlier, Al-Sisi met PM Modi and held hi-lo talks to take bilateral trade to $12 billion over the next five years. The two leaders also held wide-ranging discussions on strengthening food and pharma supply chains affected by Covid and the conflict in Ukraine.

In his remarks to the media after the talks with the Egyptian leader, the Prime Minister said that India and Egypt are worried about the spread of terrorism across the world.

“We agree that terrorism is the most serious security threat to humanity. Both countries also agree that joint action is necessary to eradicate cross-border terrorism. Will continue to try to warn the community,” PM Modi said.

“Over the past few years, training and capacity building for joint exercises between our forces has increased.
