UEFA said the club had been accused of “racism and/or other discriminatory behaviour” and the disciplinary sanction will take effect on November 6 when Barcelona play Red Star Belgrade.
UEFA banned Barcelona on Friday from selling tickets to fans for its next Champions League away game for displaying a Nazi-tinged banner for the team’s new German coach.
A black flag with the words “Flick Heil” in an apparent tribute to coach Hansi Flick was on display during last week’s 2-1 loss to Monaco.
UEFA said the club had been accused of “racism and/or other discriminatory behaviour” and the disciplinary sanction will take effect on November 6 when Barcelona play Red Star Belgrade.
UEFA said its disciplinary judges also fined Barcelona 10,000 euros ($11,000) and ordered a new probation for a repeat offense next year. In April, fans made Nazi salutes at Paris Saint-Germain in a Champions League match.
“The Control, Ethics and Disciplinary Body (CEDB) has decided to order the implementation of the suspended disciplinary measure imposed by the UEFA Appellate Body in its decision of 17 April 2024 for the racist behavior of its supporters, i.e. to prohibit FC Barcelona from selling tickets to its away supporters for the next UEFA competitive match in accordance with Article 26(3) of the UEFA Disciplinary Regulations,” UEFA said in a statement.
Barcelona were fined €10,000 and also given an additional one-match ban from selling tickets to their away supporters, which was suspended for one year.
Monaco beat Barcelona 2-1 at their Stade Louis II last week.
Barca’s next away game is in Belgrade against Red Star on November 6.
