Upset by the bulldozer drive in their village, two revenue officials were beaten up on Monday by the villagers in the presence of the police.

Upset by the bulldozer drive in their village, two revenue officials were beaten up on Monday by the villagers in the presence of the police.

Taking cognizance of the incident, Lekpal Sangh, a union of revenue officers staged a dharna at Nawabganj police station demanding registration of FIR against the people involved in the attack.

The incident took place in Uhra village, where a team of the district administration on Saturday demolished several buildings built on government land using bulldozers.

On Monday, when some BJP leaders reached the village and spoke to the people with Circle Officer Arun Kumar, SHO Balraj Bhati, some of the villagers turned violent and attacked Lekhpals (revenue officers) Rudra Pratap Singh and Saurabh Pandey.

The police somehow dispersed the crowd and brought the situation under control.

District President of Lekhpal Sangh, Ajit Dwivedi said his colleagues were brutally beaten and their records were stolen.

“They are injured. Lekhpal Sangh will protest at the police station until a case is registered and the accused are arrested,” he said.

On Saturday night, four bulldozers were used to demolish the structures on barren land encroached on for years in the village, authorities said.

Sadar Tehsildar Shraddha Pandey said that about one and half hectare of land has been acquired with the consent of the village society for the green energy corridor.

“Government land was illegally occupied by some people. It is freed from encroachments. All illegal constructions will be demolished,” she said.

Sharing a 17-second video of X in which bulldozers can be seen in action, SP Yadav chief said, “This is the ugly face of BJP’s revenge-filled politics. BJP gets happiness in demolishing squatter houses. Those who have not arranged their houses, I don’t know what they take revenge for by tearing down other people’s houses. With every house that falls, the BJP also falls lower.” He further wrote, “For the information of Amritkaal: Today, in Ukhra village of Amritpur constituency of Farukhabad Lok Sabha (constituency), by running bulldozers on the houses of 25 poor families settled for years, who knows how many old people, sick people were left homeless in the rains. This is the height of political cruelty.” While hearing a slew of pleas against bulldozer action in various states, the Supreme Court on September 17 passed an interim order that no demolition of properties in the country should take place without its permission.

However, the Supreme Court clarified that the order is not applicable to encroachments on public roads, footpaths, railway tracks or other public spaces.
